What Is a DOT Physical?
A DOT physical is a medical examination required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) for all commercial drivers. It confirms you’re physically fit to safely operate a commercial vehicle.
You need a DOT physical if you drive a:
- Vehicle with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) over 10,001 lbs
- Vehicle designed to carry 9+ passengers for compensation
- Vehicle carrying hazardous materials
Certificates are valid for up to 24 months, sooner if the examiner identifies a condition requiring closer monitoring.

Understanding Your Disability Rating
Your VA disability rating runs from 0% to 100% and determines your monthly tax-free compensation. Common ratings and what drives them:
Rating :What It Means.
0% : Condition is service-connected but not currently disabling.
10–30%: Mild to moderate impact on daily life or work.
50–70%: Significant functional impairment.
100%: Total disability, unable to maintain substantially gainful employment.
